Edward Charles Bytheway and Margaret Ann Jones
Our great grand parents Edward and Jane Bytheway immigrated to the United States in 1869. They migrated to Oakmont, Pennsylvania and were baptized at the St Thomas Episcopal Church on 11 May 1879. With them came our grandpa Edward Bytheway at the ripe age of 3 years old.
Grandpa Edward Bytheway was
married twice. His first marriage was to Margaret Ann Jones on 19
September 1888. Margaret was born in Spennymoor, Durham, England in
1870. Edward was 21 years old and Margaret Ann was 19 years old. Several years later they had a daughter, Jane Phoebe Bytheway, born 16 September 1891 and later baptized on 29 March 1893 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Greensburg, PA. On 29 March 1893, Jane Phoebe Bytheway was baptized at the Greensburg Christ Episcopal Church. Jane was born 16 September 1891 to Edward Charles Bytheway and Margaret Ann (Jones) Bytheway. We know that Jane Phoebe Bytheway went to live with her grand parents Edward & Jane Bytheway in Sewickley by the time she was 9 years old. The 1900 US Census listed Edward and Jane Bytheway as being the parents of 9 year old Jane Bytheway. Margaret Ann Jones died in Paintertown, PA on 2 February 1893 at the age 23 years. A mystery is where is Margaret Ann Jones buried? Usually the Bytheway's were buried with lavish headstones in the Greensburg, PA cemetery. I remember vaguely of being told (in my teen age years) of a plague that killed Edward's first wife which might explain why the body was not disposed of in a normal way.
